Disappointed I did not care for this cookbook. There is no index and recipes are broken down by category only. There are no pictures and some ingredients I am not able to find in my local grocery store. I like to cook with everyday simple ingredients! This book has so many recipes that use real food and ingredients that I either already have on hand or would also use for multiple recipes. There is nothing more frustrating than buying a bunch of spices that will only be used for one recipe that you may never make again. The book is organized in a way to easily find what you are interested in cooking.

The book is divided into eight sections, one for each date. The dates cover eight of the most meaningful, important, and, often, contentious topics that couples deal with: trust and commitment, conflict, sex, money, family, fun and adventure, growth and spirituality, and dreams. Before the dates are introduced, an intro gives characteristics of successful marriages, as well as advice on how to have an intimate conversation and how to listen.There is SO MUCH interesting info in this book! I know not everyone is going to froth at the mouth over learning how couples interact with each other, but I seriously couldn’t get enough. It’s all so interesting to me, discovering what is “normal” and what actually creates a lasting connection, especially when it doesn’t necessarily match up with what I expected. Some of my favorite insights:*** Successful marriages have 20 positive interactions for every 1 negative interaction.*** Sixty-nine percent of conflicts in most marriages will never be solved. The trick is to fight about (or let go of) these issues effectively.*** Eighty-percent of married couples have sex at least a few times a month. Of those, 32% have sex 2 to 3 times a week.*** Studies have shown that dual-career couples with young children spend only 10% of their evenings together, with most of that time spent discussing errands. It talks about each topic, summarizes the chapter, then lays out a date night plan complete with suggestions for how to prepare, where to go, problems to look out for, questions to ask, and an affirmation to say together at the end of the date. It’s intense but also very doable. My husband and I haven’t gone through each of these dates yet, but the ones we’ve done have been really interesting and made us feel more connected.In short, I’d recommend this book to any couple looking to take their relationship to the next level. The book aims to encourage couples to "date" each other in order to strengthen their marriages. As the title suggests, Gottman and Gottman provide resources for eight dates which primarily focus on essential conversations to have with each other. . Each chapter provides background information on the topic including why it is an essential conversation and why the topic is important for a long, lasting marriage. At the end of the chapter a list of questions is provided along with suggestions for a date.This is a book where ideally each spouse has a copy or has a copy they can easily share. For this reason, the hardbound copy would be a better purchase. While useful for couples of all ages, couples still in the earlier years of their relationship will benefit the most from this resource. Stephen King's quote must of been for something else Not sure where all the positive reviews for this series are coming from. Volume 1 does not stand by itself or interest me in a way to continue. I'm assuming there is a twist later, but the way all the men die doesn't make any sense. Every decision that every character makes especially the protagonist are beyond stupid. There is not one believable or interesting character or situation. The artwork is mediocre at best. I would avoid this serious like the plague that targets the Y chromosome unless you are specifically on a mission to read every graphic novel ever made.An Impossilby Original and Creative Graphic Novel First off, I'll start with the actual book itself. I checked out the other options, and I must say that the Deluxe Edition Books are the must buy, as currently the first book is actually cheaper than buying the first two normal volumes. What you get here is of amazing quality, with it being hardcover, and I think slightly over-sized from the comic, which helps make the amazing art really shine. For the story, the main idea isn't too original, where every man dies, but the resulting conflicts are completely original, to a point where I was almost amazed someone had the creativity to make something like Y: The Last Man. No one knows what killed off every single mammal with a Y chromosome, but whatever it was for some reason it left one comical escape artist stuck in a rut and his male monkey alive in a world of confused and pissed off women. The group of main characters is completed with a genetic scientist that almost created a successful clone of herself right at the time of the apocalyptic event, and a secret agent, ordered by the new female president to protect the last man on earth. The group goes on a cross country trek to try to figure out a way to save humanity, while facing life threatening road blocks every step of the way. My only problem with this graphic novel, is that some of the reasoning of the villains is kind of goofy and forced, mainly the insane Amazons. They do at times give a reason for why they are the way they are, but at the same time it all boiled down to, oh they're just crazy, instead of giving them an actual purpose or reason for their horrible actions. Still, I'd highly recommend this Deluxe Edition Book, and I'd say that everyone should have Y: The Last Man on their shelves.The last man on Earth is not alone. If you've made it this far then you probably already know what the series is about. In case you don't, Yorick Brown becomes the last known man alive when a mysterious plague wipes all other life on earth that have a Y chromosome with the exception of his pet monkey, Ampersand. Together they are mankind's last hope and must survive many horrors and obstacles to hopefully find a cure and bring mankind back from extinction while also reuniting Yorick with girlfriend Beth in Australia.When I first heard of this series I was very intrigued by the concept and knew I wanted to read it. Thankfully they had it at my local library and I picked up volume one only to find I could not put it down. This series in amazing as I'm sure many other reviewers are already telling you. The characters are likable and feel like real people despite the extraordinary circumstances around them. They include of course many strong female characters such as a secret agent assigned to protect Yorick, a biologist trying to bring mankind back who may know more about the incident then she's let on, an Israeli officer that will stop at nothing to find the last man on Earth whose motive and goal is unclear, and many more. The dialogue is witty and the storyline is addictive. Nearly every chapter ends with a revelation of some kind that shakes your perception of the world within the comic without relying on cheap tricks to keep the reader engaged. I don't want to spoil anything for people that haven't read it before but I will say that if you haven't given this series a chance yet and it isn't at your local library then here is the best place to start. I seriously doubt you'll regret it.

Terrible.... I bought this book for an undergraduate controls class I am taking and must say it is a pretty bad book. Having had plenty of schooling under my belt (4 yrs bachelors and now finishing up graduate school) I am still amazed at why professors gravitate towards certain books. This book now in its 12 edition is difficult to follow, and the examples within the chapters don't provide enough detail or insight for the student to gain an in-depth understanding of the subject matter. Worse, the problems at the end of the chapters dont provide solutions (many books will have solutions to odd problems for example) that leaves the student unsure of whether he/she is doing the work right. Many of you will probably end up having to buy this book for class, if you do, or if you want a book to learn controls on your own, I would much more recommend a used copy of Norman S Nise Controls system engineering.Definition of "too dense to be useful" I had to buy this book for the controls class I'm taking right now and I must say this is easily one of the worst textbooks I've ever used. The chapters are way too dense. You're literally asked to learn 130 pages worth of material in Chapters 1&2 combined. For an introductory chapter, that's a lot of to ask of anyone who is new to a subject. The book would benefit immensely from asking problems (with solutions) throughout each chapter so you can slowly digest the concepts in a systemic manner. The examples are pretty terrible in my opinion as they are not very straight forward and presented with tons of equations but little context. Also, very rarely do they mirror the end-of-chapter questions, so you can't even use them to see if you are doing the problems correctly. It's clear that this series needs a serious trimming to cut out a lot of text and just display things in a clear concise manner. Instead of exposes of text, just get to the meat of the chapters with straight-forward examples that ramp up in difficulty. Overall, my experience with the book is like taking a Dragon kick from Bruce Lee, a Haymaker from Chuck Liddell and getting electrocuted simultaneously.Edit: 4/13/2013We have been using this this textbook all semester and my original review still holds. The examples continually prove to be awful in ways that make you wonder if there was even an editor to this textbook. I doubt they ever really asked a student honestly to give them feedback because anyone who isn't a lobotomized eggplant or sycophant would tell the writers this book is garbage. The explanations are lacking to the nth degree and the author clearly thinks himself "a clever person" by asking problems that cover corner cases WITHOUT COVERING THEM IN THE TEXT. That would be okay if you were provided fully-explained solutions in the back of the book so you could struggle for a bit and then learn it, but you aren't so the author is just a straight-up jerk at worst and a terrible writer at best. Overall, this book is pure rubbish and I feel sympathy for the birds that lost their home due to the tree being cut down to print this absolute piece of fecal matter.
