Title: Shortest Way Home Pdf One Mayor's Challenge and a Model for America's Future

A mayor's inspirational story of a Midwest city that has become nothing less than a blueprint for the future of American renewal.

Once described by The Washington Post as "the most interesting mayor you've never heard of", Pete Buttigieg, the 36-year-old Democratic mayor of South Bend, Indiana, has improbably emerged as one of the nation's most visionary politicians. First elected in 2011, Buttigieg left a successful business career to move back to his hometown, previously tagged by Newsweek as a "dying city", because the industrial Midwest beckoned as a challenge to the McKinsey-trained Harvard graduate. Whether meeting with city residents on middle-school basketball courts, reclaiming abandoned houses, confronting gun violence, or attracting high-tech industry, Buttigieg has transformed South Bend into a shining model of urban reinvention.

While Washington reels with scandal, Shortest Way Home interweaves two once unthinkable success stories: that of an Afghanistan veteran who came out and found love and acceptance, all while in office, and that of a Rust Belt city so thoroughly transformed that it shatters the way we view America's so-called flyover country.

A very well-written, down-to-earth, inspiring book PEOPLE LISTEN UP, HE'S THE REAL DEAL!! I rarely read political books since I'm a scientist, but this is such a fantastic book and I would recommend it to everyone who's looking for hope in American politics! Pete has good ideas and a clear vision for the future, his experiences are amazing, has a stellar resume, but is such a down-to-earth person and so likeable. Haven't felt so hopeful in such a long time! You go Pete!Meet Pete! Fascinating look at South Bend and "Mayor Pete." His heart and intelligence shine throughout the chapters. I didn't want to put it down.Something More Than Another Campaign I bought this book as a way of learning about one of the less well-known Democratic contenders for POTUS in 2020, expecting a bullet-list of political goals and Buttigieg’s personal take on why, at his young age, he deserves to be president. What I found instead was a fascinating story of how a bright, clever young man put his decaying Midwestern hometown of South Bend, Indiana, on the road to recovery. Against the backdrop of a well-written story of how Buttigieg grew a city is an even more poignant story of how he grew himself, what that self entails, and details of how that self came to be. The book is not political, though, by its conclusion the author’s politics are clear. It is not a book of promises, but rather a sharing of achievements and the thinking that produced them, which inevitably reveals what Buttigieg would bring to the presidency. Finally, it is not a book of lofty ideals, but a sharing of the recognition that ideals that are worth pursuing require hard work and a willingness to labor intimately and constructively with those around you, even when those around you don’t agree with you. He is bright, insightful, and writes beautifully, skillfully turning the potentially boring in-house details of small town bureaucracy into a fascinating mosaic of growth and hope and never giving up. I feel that my purpose in buying this book was fulfilled: I know Buttigieg well enough to make in informed decision about him in 2020. More importantly, the book allowed me to get to know him as a person, a perspective too often absent in assessing fit for political office. For anyone interested in the upcoming presidential election, it is a must-read.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Pdf

Title: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Pdf The Illustrated Edition
Author: J K Rowling
Published Date: 2019-10-08
Page: 464

Praise for Jim Kay's illustrations:"I love seeing Jim Kay's interpretation of Harry Potter's world, and I feel honored and grateful that he continues to lend his talent to it." -- J.K. Rowling"It's all that an old-fashioned book aficionado could wish for . . . Is this, one wonders, the sort of book found at Diagon Alley's Flourish and Blotts or in the Hogwarts library? Kay's illustrations, freshly re-envisioning the story, range from spot images to dramatic double page spreads, all pulsating with color and vitality. This gorgeous volume is sure to please all, from Harry Potter neophytes to longtime fans." -- New York Times Book ReviewJ.K. Rowling is the author of the record-breaking, multi-award-winning Harry Potter novels. Loved by fans around the world, the series has sold over 500 million copies, been translated into over 80 languages, and made into eight blockbuster films. She has written three companion volumes in aid of charity: Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (in aid of Comic Relief UK and Lumos), and The Tales of Beedle the Bard (in aid of Lumos), as well as a screenplay inspired by Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which marked the start of a five-film series to be written by the author. She has also collaborated on a stage play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts One and Two, which opened in London's West End in the summer of 2016 and on Broadway in the spring of 2018. In 2012 J.K. Rowling's digital company Pottermore was launched, where fans can enjoy news, features, and articles, as well as original content from J.K. Rowling. She is also the author of The Casual Vacancy, a novel for adult readers, and the Strike crime series, written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. She has received many awards and honors, including an OBE and Companion of Honour, France's Légion d'honneur, and the Hans Christian Andersen Award.Jim Kay won the Kate Greenaway Medal in 2012 for his illustrations in A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. Jim studied illustration at the University of Westminster and since graduating has worked in the archives of Tate Britain and the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew. Jim has produced concept work for television and contributed to a group exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. He now lives and works in Northamptonshire, England, with his partner and a rescued greyhound.

The fourth book in the beloved Harry Potter series, now illustrated in glorious full color by award-winning artist Jim Kay.

Harry Potter wants to get away from the pernicious Dursleys and go to the International Quidditch Cup with Hermione, Ron, and the Weasleys. He wants to dream about Cho Chang, his crush (and maybe do more than dream). He wants to find out about the mysterious event involving two other rival schools of magic, and a competition that hasn't happened for a hundred years. He wants to be a normal, fourteen-year-old wizard. Unfortunately for Harry Potter, he's not normal - even by wizarding standards. And in this case, different can be deadly.

With dazzling illustrations from Jim Kay, this new fully illustrated edition of the complete and unabridged text of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is sure to delight fans and first-time readers alike.

Beautiful editions for fans & children These illustrated editions of Harry Potter were done right! All of the original text is there and the artwork is beautiful. Every page has something, whether it's an illustration that takes up a full double page spread, a little drawing in the corner, a thematic border, or just a visually textured background. It may sound chaotic, like the visuals could be too much and break up the flow of reading but it is not; it enhances the story as you turn the pages and delight in the new visuals that each page brings. I imagine these would be a great way to bring children into the story, but they're so nice you may want to protect and collect these beauties. I can't wait for them to release the others.Unbelievable quality for the price! SPECIAL NOTE: For U.S. customers purchasing the illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, you will notice the text has NOT been converted to the "Americanized" version of the original U.S. releases (with the exception of changing all "Philosopher's Stone" mentions to "Sorcerer's Stone"). So far, I have noticed the following: (EU/US) dialling / dialing; Shan't! / Won't!; sherbet lemon / lemon drop; motorbike / motorcycle; and dustbin / trashcan. For many purists of the series who never liked the idea of modifying the original text for an American audience, this is a good thing. Good or bad is naturally for each reader to decide--just know, if you plan to read the books while listening to Jim Dale's audiobooks, you'll notice a few superficial differences. The quality of this new illustrated edition is phenomenal. I've been excited about the release of this book since it was announced, but I never expected the book as a whole to be so well crafted.A couple of things to note:1. Underneath the book jacket, the novel is bound in a sturdy red hardback with gold lettering on the spine.2. The paper is thick with an eggshell glossy finish.3. All chapter intros are illustrated.4. Some images take up full pages or multiple pages. Most illustrations share the page with text.5. Every inch of the book is illustrated or decorated in some fashion. There are NO white pages in the book. Even the pages without large illustrations have the paper printed and marked with ink blots or paper "stains".I would highly recommend this for anyone looking to read the series (again, or for the first time), especially if you plan to read this with someone younger. If this book is a demonstration of what is to come with the illustrated editions for the rest of the series, we're all in for six more impeccable treats.Beautiful Book but mine's already falling apart ;-( The book itself and illustrations are absolutely, incredibly extraordinary. In that way, this is 100% a 10-STAR book and is absolutely to die for for Harry Potter fans. I was ravenous to get my hands on my copy as soon as it was delivered this morning, but was quickly disappointed.First, Amazon's packaging was utterly and despicably inadequate. (See Photo) My book was shipped in a box, with *no packing material* of any kind. At first glance, it seemed OK. But when I took a close look at my dust jacket, I was extremely upset to find that the gold foil lettering for "Harry Potter" had been rubbed away and destroyed completely in some places leaving ugly, black matte in its place-- pock marking the otherwise handsome gold lettering. Also, the matte-finish of the dust jacket had been rubbed so badly due to the bad packaging that it left scars and shiny markings where the matte finish was worn off. For an obvious gift/collectors item, this is absolutely unacceptable. I called Amazon and they didn't seem to "get" what my fuss was all about and just offered to ship a replacement which, undoubtedly, will be shipped in exactly the same way.Second, after I got over my initial outrage over the shipping/packaging. I sat down to enjoy the actual book itself, which as I said is absolutely extraordinary! I was extremely cautious handling the book and binding, being unsure how tolerant the binding is of weight. I carefully opened both the right and left sides of the binding and supported the weight of the opened cover using a small pillow. By the time I reached the back 3/4th of the book (on Professor McGonagall's full page illustration) the binding separated from the spine the very first time I turned the page. In other words, the binding fell apart during my very first pass through the book. (See Photo). Another thing that really drove me crazy was the way that the stitched in book mark was carelessly folded into the book. It left dents all over my pages (See Photo), which of course had to be on a full page illustration of Hagrid!Needless to say I'm in awe how Bloomsbury has managed to put together such an incredible project, with JK Rowling's remarkable literature and Jim Kay's otherworldly illustrations-- and allowed it to be put together in a low quality binding! I noticed that all of the previous Harry Potter books were printed and bound in USA (some in Mexico) but this book was printed and bound in China. I would like to hope that they would quality check a thing like this, but perhaps not. Either way, I am extremely disappointed in the quality/binding of my book. I would be interested to know if others are seeing the same thing. And please, Amazon, pack these books in bubble wrap and packing material! Not all alone in a box...Update (October 9th): I have finally received my new book and it was in much, much better condition. The cover and spine were tight, intact and falling apart from the binding like my original copy. Addtl photos to follow...

Poorly aligned with 2020 test redesign. AP World teacher here—Lazy update—it feels like 5 Steps tried to rush out a new version before any of the other companies. They kept 80 pages of now irrelevant material, citing “for reviewing purposes” or “might be useful in the future”. Additionally, it just doesn’t align well with the new test redesign. A student would struggle trying to match this to any College Board materials, and therefore likely struggle with fitting this with their course. I would hate to see them waste their precious time studying outdated material or get confused trying to align with the test.LOVE IT! This is way better than the other publishers. I am very pleased with this book as my child reads the analyses and takes quizzes after each unit. This will definitely help you with the AP exam. I would recommend this edition over the new one because it goes more in depth. I have seen it for myself and you should too!Nice review book This is one of the books that you should get to review for the AP World Exam. The other book that will be really helpful is Princeton Review's guideThis book is extremely organized into good chapters with sufficient details. There are excellent charts at the end of each unit that summarizes changes and continuities [one of the essay formats on the real exam] for that unit. There are also numerous suggestions for comparisons [another Essay style]The review questions after the chapter and the practice tests are helpful although not that realistic. I suggest purchasing official tests from the Collegeboard store for practice. All in all, combine this with Princeton and you will be in good shape. I will update the review with my grade once I get them, for those that are interested.---------------------------------------------------------------------I'm back to edit the review with my grade. I got my score report from CB, and it turns out I got a 5 on the exam! Good luck guys :)

Great for building reading confidence. To my great surprise, soon after my son turned four he was suddenly reading. It started with R-E-D and then he was off! We grabbed these and the easier choices (What is Red?, What Do I Need?, Hurry Up! Hurry Up!) really helped him feel like he was reading when he was mostly using repetition and matching the first letter of a word with the picture to "read". Since then, he's moved on to consistently sounding out words. I don't think these have a lot of longevity, but I do not at all regret the purchase. They held up great despite reviewers claims that they were flimsy, even when my 16 month old toddler played with them.I highly recommend these, and after you build some confidence, the "I Like to Read" series is a great next step. We found quite a few at our local library: "See Me Dig", "See Me Run", and "Car Goes Far" were particular favorites.Great content, flimsy construction. Bought these for 3yr old toddler learning to read. Very nice repetition of words in each story, nice simple drawings for reading clues, cute stories that engage interest at this level, included are good tips for parents to teach kids. Why 4 stars, because they are very flimsy, very thin pages, way too easy for toddler (targeted age group)to rip before you can rescue book. These go on the out of reach shelf unless we are reading together, which is kind of a shame really because one of his favorite things to do is sit and thumb through his books picking out words he knows telling himself the jist of the stories. Also, I know kids books are expensive in general, but the quality of the books ( not the content)could have been better for the price.Great confidence booster for beginners 25 books, each has about 5 pages. I do wish they had a couple of more, but it is not a complaint. My daughter can read, but doesn't want to try because she doesn't think she can do it. I ordered these hoping they would help her realize that she can! & has!So I ordered these, which were very reasonably priced and they were delivered in 2 days as stated. We immediately opened them up and my little one read each and every word!I absolutely loved seeing that big smile of "I did it!" And for the last few nights we have read a few of them right before bedtime.I would recommend this set for sure, but I would advise that these are for beginners... early beginners who are just learning to bring letters together.Thumbs up all around on this one!
