Great series Review I love this series...and the prequel was no exception. It was a real treat to go back and read Arcturus’s story. It was enlightening as well as informative. This exciting tale explained many of the relationships between Arcturus and the other characters. It filled my need for another book...although I would love more!Taran Matharu I really enjoyed this book, that is why I gave it 5 stars. Taran Matharu has a great talent for storytelling. His characters come to life from the moment they are introduced. He also has the ability to keep you wanting to turn the next page, he allows you to let your imagination go and really absorb the situation and therefore connect to the story. Very well done.A fun little read The pace is always lightening quick in this series and this book is no exception. The character development and plot move at an even pace and provide only the occasional misdirection to keep things flowing yet interesting. The characters and chapters move from one dramatic situation to the next in a way that never provides a good stopping point and requires the reader to continue on never putting the book down. The authors dependence on deus ex machina can sometimes become weary, but the quick pacing doesn't let the reader focus on any particular irritation. I am hoping there is more coming from the author in the form of prequels or sequels. Lastly, if you are a fan of cover art, the dusk jacket is artistic enough to make you want to frame it. Good luck and God bless!

A best-selling, research-based guide to effective reading instruction, the Teaching Reading Sourcebook has always supported educators in bridging the gap between evidence-based reading research and actionable instructional strategies. Now the Sourcebook also supports educators efforts in understanding, transitioning to, unpacking, and implementing the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts. In the Updated Second Edition, new features seamlessly connect and clarify the Sourcebook's alignment to the Common Core.

Common Core has not changed the essential components of reading instruction. That's why the Teaching Reading Sourcebook is still the ultimate guide for improving reading achievement. The Updated Second Edition includes:
  • New Common Core information, cross-references, and graphic explanations
  • Explicit coverage (what? why? when? and how?) of the five essential components of reading instruction
  • Sample lesson models and resources to easily implement best practices
  • Highly respected contributing authors who are experts in the field of reading

A good textbook and a valuable resource for classroom teachers at all levels. We recommend it!- The Teaching Reading Sourcebook is a good textbook and a valuable resource for classroom teachers at all levels. The Common Core Standards are specifically referenced throughout.- The Big Five: The Sourcebook covers all essential reading skills from pre-reading through proficiency with an emphasis on phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension as recommended by the National Reading Panel.- A clear structure is followed throughout the book. Each chapter is structured as What, Why, When, and How. Each section includes a summary of the research findings as well as a bibliography for further reading.- Lesson Plans and Activities: The most practical aspect of this textbook is the sample lesson plans and activities structured as direct and explicit instruction. The sample lessons can be used as in-class practice or in the practicum. Each section also includes strategies for ELLs and the struggling reader. Informal assessments are provided throughout.- The supplementary materials may be used for practices. Chapters also include discussion questions, which provide students opportunities to articulate what they have learned. The textbook, taught well, is not only convenient for instructors but will also prepare teacher candidates to be effective reading instructors from day one of their professional practice.- Research on reading instruction is ongoing and instructors need to keep abreast of the latest findings and supplement any textbook with what has been scientifically found to be most effective. Although users of the Teaching Reading Sourcebook may wish more information were provided on ELLs and struggling readers, these critical topics are typically taught as separate courses.- The Teaching Reading Sourcebook is highly recommended.NCTQ is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit research and policy organization committed to ensuring that every child has access to effective teachers and every teacher has the opportunity to become effective. The Giving Tree Download

ISBN: 0060256656
Title: The Giving Tree Pdf
Author: Shel Silverstein
Published Date: 1964-10-07
Page: 64

To say that this particular apple tree is a "giving tree" is an understatement. In Shel Silverstein's popular tale of few words and simple line drawings, a tree starts out as a leafy playground, shade provider, and apple bearer for a rambunctious little boy. Making the boy happy makes the tree happy, but with time it becomes more challenging for the generous tree to meet his needs. When he asks for money, she suggests that he sell her apples. When he asks for a house, she offers her branches for lumber. When the boy is old, too old and sad to play in the tree, he asks the tree for a boat. She suggests that he cut her down to a stump so he can craft a boat out of her trunk. He unthinkingly does it. At this point in the story, the double-page spread shows a pathetic solitary stump, poignantly cut down to the heart the boy once carved into the tree as a child that said "M.E. + T." "And then the tree was happy... but not really." When there's nothing left of her, the boy returns again as an old man, needing a quiet place to sit and rest. The stump offers up her services, and he sits on it. "And the tree was happy." While the message of this book is unclear (Take and take and take? Give and give and give? Complete self-sacrifice is good? Complete self-sacrifice is infinitely sad?), Silverstein has perhaps deliberately left the book open to interpretation. (All ages) --Karin Snelson “If you’re looking for a children’s book that teaches generosity or unselfishness, most people will point you right to The Giving Tree, Shel Silverstein’s lovely story of a tree that will do anything for the boy it loves—and for good reason. This classic is always a good place to start.” (Brightly)

The Giving Tree, a story of unforgettable perception, beautifully written and illustrated by the gifted and versatile Shel Silverstein, has been a classic favorite for generations.

Since it was first published fifty years ago, Shel Silverstein's poignant picture book for readers of all ages has offered a touching interpretation of the gift of giving and a serene acceptance of another's capacity to love in return.

Shel Silverstein's incomparable career as a bestselling children's book author and illustrator began with Lafcadio, the Lion Who Shot Back. He is also the creator of picture books including A Giraffe and a Half, Who Wants a Cheap Rhinoceros?, The Missing Piece, The Missing Piece Meets the Big O, and the perennial favorite The Giving Tree, and of classic poetry collections such as Where the Sidewalk Ends, A Light in the Attic, Falling Up, Every Thing On It, Don't Bump the Glump!, and Runny Babbit.

And don't miss Runny Babbit Returns, the new book from Shel Silverstein!

"I ALWAYS GIFT THIS BOOK" Whenever I am invited to a baby shower, this is always a gift from my husband & myself. I have even chose this book as a house warming gift.Like movies, books of all kinds are very personal. What I mean is everyones perception of what they are viewing , in this case reading are very different. All that I can honestly say about this book, what some people say is "controversial" is it ;touches on feelingsteaches about selfishnessteaches about selflessnessteaches about caringteaches about givingthis book really tugs at all the emotions everyone goes through one time or another. Or even all at once.It has turned into a discussion book for all my grandkids. Through your own eyes, minds & hearts is how each person feels & experiences when they read this book, or has it read to them. The book is a hardback & comes with a cover resembling the cover of the book. There are only 30 pages to these book. The illustrations are clean & simple black drawings on crisp white pages. These pages aren't numbered, just clean illustrations.I hope this review helped.I keep my copy in our livingroom, it's there always.📖THANKS FOR READING, BYE📚Beautiful edition I have always loved this story. With the adult coloring craze still going on and storybook coloring books becoming a big deal I decided to pick up a copy of The Giving Tree that I would color to give to my kids and future grandkids. This edition is perfect for that purpose.Dear Mr. Silverstein, My wife and I were joined in a nearly two year battle with a disease that wanted to take her from me. As the season of giving neared, she asked me to purchase a gift for me that would be from her. She was too weak to go out any longer. I was in a Book Sellers thinking I would purchase a gift card for her to give to me. I passed a display and saw a flash of red and green. They were my wife's favorite colors. I looked closer and saw the little boy, the apple, and the giving tree. Without even opening it I knew this would be from her to me. When we exchanged gifts she looked at it and smiled. Without a word, I held and put it in a quiet place to be read again at a special time.On the early morning of January 31st, while I held and kissed her gently, she left the field of battle. This morning I re-read her gift to me and actually, Mr. Silverstein, your gift to us.My wife Vincenza (Vincy) of almost 45 years was my giving tree. Now as a old man I sit where she rests. I dream and remember. As always, Richard La Bella.

Pawnee Free Pdf

ISBN: 1401310648
Title: Pawnee Pdf The Greatest Town in America
Author: Leslie Knope
Published Date: 2011-10-04
Page: 256

"Carrying this book around is a good way of picking up girls with glasses."―Tom Haverford"I have read over four books, and this is by far the one that has me in it the most."―Andy Dwyer"Literally the greatest endeavor of human creativity in the history of mankind."―Chris Traeger Leslie Knope has lived in Pawnee since her childhood. The community programs she enjoyed in her youth inspired her to pursue a life of public service and serve the city. Leslie is a member of several action committees in her role at city hall, including the Equal Opportunity Committee, the Fun in the Sun Committee, the Clean Restroom Task Force, the Handicapped Restroom Task Force and the Task Force to Reduce the Number of Public Restrooms. Her goal is to become the first female President of the United States. Leslie is the Deputy Parks Director of Pawnee's parks and recreation department, a mid-level bureaucrat position. She hopes to advance her career (possibly aiming to jump over the department's Director position and become a City Manager) and improve her town. Leslie also has a love for sweets, especially whipped cream, as she usually adds excessively large amounts to coffee, waffles and other food.

Welcome to Pawnee: More Exciting than New York, More Glamorous than Hollywood, Roughly the Same Size as Bismarck, North Dakota

In Pawnee, Leslie Knope (as played by Amy Poehler on NBC's hit show Parks and Recreation) takes readers on a hilarious tour through her hometown, the Midwestern haven known as Pawnee, Indiana. The book chronicles the city's colorful citizens and hopping nightlife, and also explores some of the most hilarious events from its crazy history--like the time the whole town was on fire, its ongoing raccoon infestation, and the cult that took over in the 1970s. Packed with laugh-out-loud-funny photographs, illustrations, and commentary by the other inhabitants of Pawnee, it's a must-read that will make you enjoy every moment of your stay in the Greatest Town in America.

My favorite was Jean Ralphio's reviews of the bars in Pawnee I bought this book last-minute for my Leslie Knope cosplay for Comic Con, and expected it to be more of a prop than an actual book. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened it to discover that it's a full length book w/ little blurbs written in character by Leslie and other characters from the show! My favorite was Jean Ralphio's reviews of the bars in Pawnee, and his various ratings of Simantha. This reminded me a lot of companion books typically written for sci fi/fantasy book series, shows and movies. A little corny, super cute, a fun read! This is hilarious, and just as if Leslie Knope ... This is hilarious, and just as if Leslie Knope lovingly wrote this about her town. It makes me wish that Pawnee was a real town just so I can visit!Arrived used and damaged. Really disappointed that I paid $18 for a book and it clearly looks used or really mishandled because it has a couple damages. If only I didn't need it right away I would return it but I am very dissatisfied with this purchase.
